Why choose immersive training?

Are you looking for modern training tools? Would you like to find out more about immersive training?

Are you looking for modern training tools? Would you like to find out more about immersive training?

If that's the case, our article is for you.

In recent years, technology has been advancing at an ever-increasing pace. Today, virtual reality headsets are part of our lives. And if they can be used to improve our training, virtual reality will enable us to become more immersed.

That's what we're going to find out in this article:

  • The aim of immersive training
  • The changes it brings
  • The benefits of using it

Once you've finished, you'll know all the secrets of immersive training.

So let's get started!

What is immersive training?

immersive training

Blending reality and fiction, these new immersive training courses exploit the technology of virtual realityor augmented reality, to immerse the learner in a specific situation.

This type of training provides total immersion during exercises by projecting an environment or digital virtual elements onto the participants' virtual reality headset.

What are immersive training courses used for?

The aim of immersive training is to make training sessions more productive and educational. Practical experience is one of the simplest and quickest ways of assimilating information.

Based on this premise, immersive training centres have gradually sprung up, offering courses where practice can be implemented using augmented reality. We've seen the emergence of training courses in fire safety, protection of the industrial environment, hygiene, and so on.

This type of training makes it possible to implement, in a fictitious way, a situation that is difficult, or even dangerous, to carry out in reality. The only limit to immersive training scenarios is your imagination.

Immersive training in augmented reality or virtual reality?

The two courses are virtually identical, both using the projection of an environment to create a situation. The difference lies in the way they are delivered.

VR (virtual reality) offers totally virtual immersion, thanks to the VR headset on your head. Everything you see is fictional and computer-generated. Several people can be immersed in the same environment.

Augmented reality (AR), or mixed reality, is a technology that implants digital objects into the real world via a screen. This technology allows you to remain in "our world" and, via a projection on AR glasses, add totally virtual elements with which to interact.

What's the difference with traditional training?

immersive virtual reality training

The biggest difference, as we briefly mentioned, is the possibility of practising for high-risk situations. Typically, fire risks are a perfect example.

In conventional training, not every learner has the opportunity to handle a fire extinguisher in an operational way, let alone to put out a fire. That would be far too costly and dangerous.

Virtual reality creates a virtual fire and immerses the trainee in the situation. In this way, they can virtually handle the extinguisher to put out the simulated fire.

What are the advantages of immersive training?

Immersive training therefore offers a number of real advantages for teaching. Find out more about the benefits of immersive learning:

Promotes memorisation

As mentioned earlier, practising considerably increases the chances of retaining information. According to one study, we retain :

  • 10 % for learning to read
  • 30 % for visual learning
  • 60 % for manual learning

In other words, the more you perform an action, the easier it will be to remember. Immersive training is essentially based on this concept. In these courses, you take part, and that's how you quickly learn the right gestures and attitudes.

Allows you to put yourself in a situation

Some situations are more complicated to put into practice. We've already mentioned the case of fires: we can't risk declaring a fire so that each learner can practise the right thing to do.

The same applies to dangerous situations in factories, handling chemical products, or emergency accident situations. VR makes it possible to create a virtual environment with which to interact in these situations.

For a training course such as sales or leadership, the computer can generate dozens of virtual people, with very different characters, making it possible to vary the situations and therefore enhance your experience.

Affordable training

To take the example of fires again, imagine having to invest in dozens of fire extinguishers to enable learners to practise. The cost of such training would be astronomical.

Thanks to VR, you can create virtual fire extinguishers that you can use at will. Even more interesting is the augmented reality offered by some training centres, which lets you handle a real fire extinguisher, specially modified to interact with the virtual fire.

Total safety

VR is in no way dangerous for the user. Anything that can happen in the virtual world has no impact on reality. So you can experience dangerous situations without risking your life.

This unique experience will give you an initial view of the potential risks that could arise, so that you can act accordingly in your day-to-day life.
