The guide file and the tail-end charlie are mandatory roles in any company evacuation procedure. They are designated by the employer and specifically trained.

Training content
- To know the outputs — escape routes, main and emergency exits
- Respond to the alarm — Immediate procedure, communication
- To guide a group — calmer, direct, count the people
- Check the premises Offices, toilets, meeting rooms (rear guard)
- Dealing with the unexpected — Exit blocked, no injuries, smoke
- Meeting point — counting, handover to security manager
Legal obligation
Article R4227-34 of the Labour Code requires the designation of persons responsible for directing the evacuation. The training of evacuation marshals (guide-files and serre-files) is recommended annually. View all liabilities.
